Two worlds apart
30 April 2008
In Romania, I think people are still affected by prejudice and discrimination.
The reason I accepted to be a part of the show on the 1st of May at the Palace Hall, is because I’m concerned with these issues and I hope, by my actions, to be able to change something.
I don’t particularly like the genre of music called “manele” and neither am I going to perform it. However, I appreciate some of its performers for being exceptional solists and instrumentalists, who own a remarkable technique.
In this show I am only performing songs from my own repertory. By doing this, I want to prove that in a free society, people shouldn’t judge the cultural nature of the minorities, instead they could show them that there are other forms of culture, as well.
Although I wasn’t involved in this project, I support Mr. Florin Salam’s initiative to found a music academy where young people, of any nationality or minority, can be taught a profession that could change their destiny. Hopefully, my presence in this concert would make more young people desire to study music instead of spending their time on the streets.
To avoid any other suspicions due to my participation on this event, I wish to underline the fact that I didn’t collect any charge.
