On Eurovision

12 February 2007 Hello everyone!
As you all know, I sent 2 songs for the Eurovision contest this year: one ”according to the target” and the other because I liked it a lot.

It so happened that it didn’t past the first stage... Oh well.. Maybe next time.

And because everytime we were surprised by different circumstances which made thee whole method of choosing the song the more spectacular, I thought there are some things that can be improved in organizing this event.

I believe that, before choosing all the songs that would go into the semifinals, there should be a complete assay on them, and that requires time.

You simply cannot listen to hundreds of songs in a day. It’s impossible to have a clear judgment after all the songs you have heard. There are several factors that can draw back the songs as the selection is coming to an end: tiredness, boredom, getting used to a number of sounds that can diminish fine features of other songs.
The reaction of the jury „a lot of bad songs” may easily come from that.

Because I work in a studio as well, I can say that after 6 hours of work, no matter how beautiful the songs I’m recording may be, everything seems full of imperfections. The ear gets tired and „creates” new elements that keep your attention from what’s important in a song.

Moreover, even gold looks worthless in large amounts.
You can put together ( if you own it ;-)) a tone of platinum jewelry and you’ll notice that it looks like a pile of scrap-iron. This is exactly what happens with the songs that had been „judged” in a hurry.

When you really want to make the right choice, you invest time.
As long as it takes to know for sure taht your chioce is well pondered.

Moreover, the most important test is the live appearance.you simply can’t send off to Eurovision songs performed by people who can’t sing. That’s why I think it’s imperative to cover this aspect in selection, as well.
Maybe, instead of listening to CDs with corrections applied to the voices, they can organize a small performance in which everyone can present their song. That will show exactly how professional and involved every artist and composer is.

I’m just saying...

It’s true, rules are rules.
If they say the songs cannot be performed before a certain date, then that’s how it should be. Only the authors of these songs are responsable for this.
At the same time, if this mistake has been made, if the songs qualified for the contest, regardless of the broadcasting, the plagiarism, etc., it’s equally wrong to take them out of the contest, especially if 10000 Romanians supported the song with their vote and their money.

Hoping that things wouldbe as positive and favorable, I’m wishing Loco Mondo good luck.
